Introduction:
Garment fitting is based on taking body measurements. So it is very important for a dress maker to know how to take accurate measurements. The following points will be very useful, for this purpose.

Objective:
  1. To know standard measurement of the components of the basic shirt.
  2. To know the sketch the different parts of a basic shirt
Study of Standard Body Measurement with Sketch Now You Know Study of Standard Body Measurement with Sketch
Sketch the different parts of a basic shirt
Basic areas of measurement:

Measured point
Description
1. Chest / Brest circumference
Closed garments are measured straight across front of garments at lowest point of arm holes on at specified level. Double this measurement (for plated back, measure with pleats closed).
2. Across shoulders
Measure straight across back of garments, from one shoulder/ armhole point to the other.
3. Across back
Measure straight back of the garment at midpoint of arm hole seem on edge one side to other.
4. Across front chest
Measure straight back of the garment at midpoint of one arm hole seem on edge one side to other.
5. Arm hole circumference
Align front and back arm hole seems on edges together, measure from undrawn intersection point up to shoulder along front arm hole. Seem on edge, following curve. Double this measurement.
6. Upper arm circumference
From low point of arm hole, measure across the sleeve (along across grain/ weft on perpendicular to sleeve fold line.  Double this body measurement.
7. Sleeve length (CBN) Centre back neck
Measure from centre back neck. Seem on edge straight across to shoulder/ arm hole point, along sleeve’s fold line down to bottom edge of sleeve opening (Cuff included, unless otherwise specified)
8. Sleeve length to shoulder / Neck point
Measure from shoulder/ neck point straight across to shoulder/ armhole point along. Sleeve’s fold line, down to bottom edge of sleeve opening.
(Cuff included, unless otherwise specified)
9. Sleeve inseam
Measure from under armhole. Seam down to bottom edge of sleeve opening ( cuff included), with vent closed (if applicable)
10. Sleeve opening
With edges even, measure straight across bottom edge of sleeve opening (elastic/ ribbing needed if applicable). Double this measurement
11. Shirt collar band
With placket open, measure along middle of band from centre of button to far end of buttonhole.
With placket closed measure along the middle of band from one edge to the other, double this measurement.
19. Back length (H.P.S)
Measure from high point of shoulder down to bottom edge of garment.
20. Back length (C.B.N)
Measure from centre back neck. Seam on edge down to bottom edge of the garment.
Conclusion:
We have learned about body measurement with sketch from this experiment.
