Introduction:
The Indian heritage of khadi is only a cloth woven by hand using hand spun yarn only. Natural fiber’s like cotton, wool and silk are using in spinning and the production activity is carried out in the Indian rural areas.
Since Khadi is used to emphasize the basic or fundamental required fabric, the soft twist transmit by the hand maintains the yarn hairiness to an extent, which always giving the maximum comfort to the wearer. The handloom used in weaving of khadi cloth interlacing the threads in a manner that allows optimum air to penetrate to the human body and settle the body better than any other fabric is being functioning. Khadi cloth is recognized as one of the coolest and most comfortable fabric ever known.

Natural, unlike handloom and mills which receive cotton yarn, blended with some regenerated cellulose fibers. Khadi cloth is dyed in natural dyes also makes a proper combination for a green fabric.
Environment and ecology occupy an important place among the key focal issues faced by the universal today. In the era of degenerating environment, efforts are on to produce 100%. Eco-friendly textiles where even the cotton will be grown without using chemical fertilizers. But, surprisingly this is already being done in India in the Eastern part of Andhra Pradesh in the South India.
There are different varieties are specific to various Indian states and are given below in Table 1.

Khadi is produced by permitted in Khadi spinning. Because of vast diversity in the attitude and culture of Indian masses, the difference is bound to occur. Present target is to increase the khadi sale to Rs 2000 crore in the next five years. The overall production of village industries is Rs.18,000crore . There are more than 1 crore people attached with Khadi and Village industries and most of them from scheduled and minority caste.
At present Khadi fabric is used to produce ready made garments like men’s short sleeve slack, long sleeve shirt, long kurtas, churidhar, dhoti, saree, lungi,angavasthiram, shawl, pyjama, ladies kurtis, nighty long leisure robes are being manufactured and sell in their own khadi gram odhyog bhavan showroom.
Right now Khadi is exported to many countries like China, Japan, USA, England, Germany, Russia, Canada and many more.
Khadi is an eco-friendly apparel. The demand for Khadi is being increased rapidly. Presently, India exports around Rs.150 crore worth of Khadi and village industries products and to reach Rs.5000 crore in the next five years. Indian Government has taken continuous effort to grow further more of the Khadi sector in all the states within India.
Ten million people are gaining self employment opportunities in next five years. The vast challenges is to push up the Khadi institutes to move the changing times and trends. Moreover, new design production to the people connected with Khadi industry.At present 32 industries are catering the skill and training offered to the younger generation to gain knowledge.
